Summary
The Metrology Calibration Technician III at B.Braun Medical is a senior technical expert responsible for the precision and compliance of all measurement systems within the B.Braun manufacturing facility. Operating under strict cGMP, FDA, and ISO standards, this role involves performing independent, high-complexity calibrations on critical process and laboratory instrumentation. The position acts as a primary subject matter expert during regulatory audits, oversees the investigation of Out-of-Tolerance (OOT) events, and provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior staff to maintain data integrity and patient safety.
Key responsibilities include executing advanced on-site calibrations for a diverse range of equipment, from analytical laboratory instruments like pH meters and analytical balances to complex production machinery such as large-scale sterilization autoclaves, and IV solution filling lines. This role independently performs highly technical, on-site calibrations including temperature, pressure, conductivity, flow, UV, balances, pH, and analytical instrumentation in a GMP environment. This position maintains NIST-traceable standards and meticulously documents all activities within B. Braun's validated Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (i.e. Blue Mountain Regulatory Asset Manager) to ensure constant audit readiness. Additionally, the technician manages relationships with external calibration vendors and develops standardized operating procedures (SOPs) to optimize the metrology program's efficiency and adherence to global quality standards.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties
- Perform calibrations, troubleshooting, and repair of measurement standards and test equipment. Troubleshoot and repair issues across multiple technical disciplines, including physical, mechanical, electrical, electro‑mechanical, and analytical.
- Ensure all assigned calibrations are completed on time.
- Calibrate and manage metrology standards in accordance with ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 or ANSI/ISO/IEC 17025.
- Provide technical support to lower‑level Calibration Technicians.
- Complete Out‑of‑Tolerance condition processes in a timely manner. Support investigation initiatives to determine root cause and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements for aging or unreliable instruments.
- Review calibration SOPs for accuracy during routine calibrations and when new instruments are introduced into the calibration database. Create new calibration SOPs for new instruments when required.
- Review and approve calibration reports within Blue Mountain Regulatory Asset Manager.
- Maintain effective communication with customers, cross‑functional teams, and direct management regarding equipment and calibration issues to minimize production downtime.
Expertise: Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of cGMP manufacturing
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles in mechanical, electrical, and quality disciplines
- Ability to read and understand drawings and schematics
- Knowledge of writing detailed calibration procedures and test reports, with a solid foundation in mathematics

- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex or critical equipment with limited assistance from the Metrology Lead or Engineer
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Experience with Calibration Management System software, preferably Blue Mountain Regulatory Asset Manager

- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
- Ability to pass Medical Requirements and Containment/Clean Room training for entry into the DUPLEX facility
Qualifications: Experience / Training / Education
Required
- Associate’s degree in a technical field and 5+ years of relevant calibration/metrology experience, with at least 3+ years in a pharmaceutical or regulated GMP environment
- OR a high school diploma combined with at least 10+ years of direct calibration experience in a pharmaceutical or regulated GMP manufacturing environment
Preferred:
ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT); Military Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL); Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE)

Salary Range: $77,000-$89,000
The targeted range for this role takes into account a range of factors that are considered when making compensation and hiring decisions; included but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The range provided is a reasonable estimate.
