1. Role Purpose
The Senior ERP Backend Engineer will design, build, extend, integrate, and support backend components for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management ERP platform. The role requires hands-on engineering capability in X++, extension-based customization, ERP integrations, reporting, performance optimization, and application lifecycle management. The position is intended for a developer who can translate functional requirements into reliable technical solutions while protecting upgradeability, stability, security, and maintainability of the ERP template.
Core expectation: This is not a generic backend developer role. The successful candidate must be a Dynamics 365 ERP technical specialist who can build APIs, reports, integrations, extensions, and performance-safe customizations within Microsoft ERP best practices.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1 ERP Backend Development & Extensions
- Design and develop Dynamics 365 FSCM extensions using X++ and standard extension patterns; avoid overlayering unless explicitly justified and approved.
- Customize forms, tables, data entities, classes, workflows, business events, batch jobs, and extensions to meet approved business requirements.
- Develop clean, reusable, testable code that follows naming conventions, version control discipline, and Microsoft development standards.
- Prepare technical specifications from functional designs and document assumptions, dependencies, risks, and deployment steps.
2.2 API, Integration & Interface Development
- Design, build, and maintain integrations using OData, REST APIs, Data Management Framework entities, business events, custom services, and batch-based integration patterns.
- Support Dual-write / Dataverse integration where required, including mapping awareness, error monitoring, and coordination with Power Platform or CRM teams.
- Integrate ERP with middleware and external systems such as MuleSoft, SAP, payment platforms, portals, mobile apps, reporting platforms, or third-party operational systems.
- Implement error handling, retry logic, logging, reconciliation, and monitoring approaches for reliable data exchange.
2.3 Reporting & Data Extraction
- Design and develop operational, statutory, and management reports using SSRS, electronic reporting, financial reports, data entities, and Power BI-ready datasets where applicable.
- Optimize report queries, joins, indexes, filters, and batch generation processes to reduce performance impact on production operations.
- Support data extraction and reconciliation for migration, analytics, audit, and business validation activities.
2.4 Performance, Upgradeability & Quality
- Analyze and resolve performance bottlenecks in code, queries, integrations, batch jobs, reports, and customizations.
- Ensure all development is compatible with Microsoft update cycles and minimizes regression risk during platform upgrades.
- Perform unit testing, peer code reviews, technical impact assessment, and release readiness checks before deployment.
- Troubleshoot production issues, root-cause defects, and provide corrective actions with clear documentation.
2.5 DevOps, Release & Environment Management
- Use Azure DevOps for work items, branches, pull requests, build pipelines, release pipelines, version control, and deployment coordination.
- Support packaging, build validation, deployment notes, release approvals, rollback planning, and separation of DEV, TEST, UAT, and PROD changes.
- Collaborate with Scrum Master, Cloud / DevOps Engineer, QA Engineer, Functional Consultants, Product Owner, and Solution Architect to deliver sprint commitments.
2.6 ERP Configuration Support
- Support module setup and parameterization where technical configuration is required, especially for Finance, Procurement, Inventory, Warehousing, Sales, Supply Chain, manufacturing, tax, integrations, and security-related configurations.
- Advise on when to configure standard functionality, when to use extension development, and when to defer or redesign a requested customization.
3. Required Technical Skills
Dynamics 365 FSCM / Finance & Operations Development
