Your Role:
The Pharmaceutical Microbiologist will lead the microbiological programme within a licensed Specials Aseptic Manufacturing environment, providing expert support to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient production of unlicensed medicines and aseptically prepared products.
This role is responsible for delivering a high-quality microbiological service within a regulated setting, with a strong focus on maintaining compliance. Key activities include environmental monitoring, microbiological testing and validation, and supporting both quality and manufacturing teams in alignment with current GMP guidelines.
In this leadership role, you’ll play an essential part in shaping a positive, inclusive, and development‑focused culture across the site. Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday (onsite)
Location: Thorncliffe Park, Sheffield, S35 2PW – located just off Junction 35A of the M1. We offer free car parking.

Your main responsibilities:
- Lead the microbiological program with the CAPS unit
- Support microbiological analyses including environmental monitoring, review of environmental results and responsibility for working with external microbiology providers for sterility testing, and microbial identification.
- Interpret test results, investigate trends, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support microbiology impact of routine aseptic processing including media fills and operator validations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of aseptic processes and contamination control and the contamination control strategy.
What you need to succeed:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years working in a pharmaceutical or aseptic manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of GMP and microbiological testing techniques.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a regulated environment.
- Ability to investigate and problem-solve effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
