Internship (f/m/d) Research & Development Infusion & Pain Therapy
Company:  B. Braun Melsungen AG
Job Posting Location:  Melsungen, Hessen, Germany
Functional Area:  Research and Development
Working Model:  Hybrid
Requisition ID:  10245

At the Melsungen site, the Research & Development department of the Center of Excellence Infusion & Pain Therapy focuses on developing innovative medical devices and simulation‑driven technologies for infusion and pain‑therapy solutions. Our multidisciplinary team works closely with product management, engineering, and manufacturing to advance and optimize our product portfolio. The master’s thesis position is embedded in this dynamic environment, contributing to research activities that support future-oriented medical technologies.

As part of this master’s thesis, you will develop an advanced model for simulating dynamic physical fields in complex materials and structures. The foundation of this work is based on modern methods of dynamic, deterministic, and continuous numerical simulation.

You will work with state‑of‑the‑art simulation approaches and contribute to supporting the development of future technologies in the medical technology and engineering environment.

Your Tasks

  • Familiarization with the physical fundamentals and mathematical modeling of dynamic fields
(e.g., wave equations, material laws, conservation principles)
  • Development of a numerical model using
pseudospectral methods, FDTD, or FEM – depending on the objective of the thesis
  • Implementation of a time‑domain simulation to represent complex effects such as
propagation, interaction, reflection, or scattering of fields in heterogeneous media
  • Parameterization of various materials and analysis of their influence on simulation stability
  • Evaluation of deterministic modeling approaches, including
discretization, stability conditions, and efficiency optimization
  • Comparison of simulation results with literature values, analytical solutions, or experimental reference data
  • Documentation and scientific preparation of the results as part of the master’s thesis

Your Profile

  • Master’s studies in Physics, Computational Engineering, Medical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science with a technical focus, or a related field
  • Initial experience in the numerical simulation of physical systems.
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or comparable scientific computing environments
  • Analytical understanding of continuous models, differential equations, and numerical methods
  • Independent and structured working style, combined with a strong interest in complex physical problems

Personal Qualifications:

  • You have a positive attitude, as well as the motivation and drive to bring open issues to a conclusion.
  • You work proactively, structured, and goal-oriented, and you maintain an overview even when dealing with complex topics and projects.
  • You think analytically and conceptually and have strong problem-solving skills.
  • You have strong communication skills (including presentations) and the ability to communicate complex topics within multidisciplinary teams.
