The Director – Equipment Design serves as a technical member of the Tech Hub’s leadership team dedicated to mastering the key competencies of the department necessary for successfully managing highly complex engineering equipment projects. This function is critical for establishing the equipment design process in B. Braun Technology Center – Asia Pacific (BTC-AP). As such, the unit works as extended workbench for the Equipment Design department of global BTC in BBM. The process needs to be harmonized between BTC-BBM and BTC-AP and leads to a standardized design procedure for our production equipments, be it injection molds, assembly machines or fully automated manufacturing lines. The function also comprises the identification and development of talents in these design areas with a clear target of generating and safeguarding equipment design IP (intellectual property) within the company, which has been defined as a clear objective within the OMM (Operating Model Medical) and the strategy of global BTC. Adding to that, this function takes over the responsibility for global plant maintenance (GPM), dealing with spare part classification, planning and management of maintenance-related material codes. For a limited time frame, the function is also responsible for project engineering of mold projects as an interimistic team lead, with a clear objective of developing the new team in Equipment Engineering within the process of “Providing Equipment” and identifying suitable talents for further functional leadership.

 

 Your key responsibiities:

 

Equipment Design

  • Development of design concepts and feasibility studies.
  • Definition and verification of technical compliance with acceptance criteria, conducting mechanical and thermal calculations and simulations.
  • Close co-operation with BTC Melsungen, department head “Equipment Design” for defining the exact extent of the design tasks to be performed by BTC-AP for each specific project in the area of automated equipment design as well as injection mold design.
  • Review of technologies, processes, and products regarding CAD design and their optimization, with the goal of improving quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Readiness for business trips as part of project work.
  • Providing training concepts and execution recommendations for skilling up junior mechanical designers in the department.

 

Global Maintenance

  • Develop strategies for higher efficiency in the life-cycle of spare parts, considering early design phases and aiming at a cradle-to-grave approach
  • Organize the activities for CSA (Classification Service Agency), SAP-PM and SAP-MM support as well as the transition to new SAP versions in a suitable form considering new automation technologies and update. the organizational set-up accordingly.
  • Close collaboration with the CoC Maintenance and the related colleagues in the areas of Maintenance Strategies, Procurement and Reliability.

 

Project Engineering Mold Equipment 

  • Responsible for aligning global quality requirements related to B. Braun’s production sites worldwide.
  • Review of requirement profiles (URS) in terms of feasibility and their implementation into technical specifications.
  • Development of project concepts and feasibility studies.
  • Definition and verification of technical compliance with acceptance criteria, conduct acceptance tests, and monitoring the commissioning and relocation of equipment.
  • Fostering the co-operation with BTC for defining the engineering processes in the area of injection molding equipment for non-active medical devices and especially on the division of labor related to it (role of Partner Managers etc.).
  • Review of technologies, processes, production facilities, and products regarding opportunities for streamlining and optimization of injection molding production equipment, with the goal of improving quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Independent planning of systems and processes in accordance with the respective valid operating instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Project management of project teams and expertise in mold making and integrated molding cells.
  • Customer support in all project phases.

 

What you will bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Polymer or equivalent).
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is an advantage.
  • 15+ years of experience, preferably within medical device or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Expertise in equipment design, maintenance and injection molding.
  • Strong leadership, project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in fast-paced, high-technology automation and high-volume manufacturing environment preferred
  • High level of commercial and operational acumen, including cost control and investment planning.
  • High communication skills in an MNC environment.
